Colours

Psychologically speaking, we have different perceptions towards colors, which is based on our culture since, there is no single universal psychological reaction to a specific color, furthermore, the colors we like, plays a great role in representing our characters and personality.

As far as art and design are concerned, colors have been used as symbols in order to represent to viewers something, which is hidden behind those colors. Not to mention that, the color symbolism and color psychology are being changed by time, place and culture. There are diverse theories concerning this issue due to the fact that, there is no such evident that, color causes any same psychological effect on people, such as red color which is known as a color causes people to be Hungary but it is relative since one may becomes Hungary but the other loses his appetite.

I have found some colors’ symbols, which are the most common in western cultures that I would like to mention them:

-Red: energy, power, ambition, masculinity, danger, aggression, leadership, confidence, and courage, socialism, revolution.

-Green:  creative intelligence, youth, growth, health, stability, calming, harmony, hope, fertility, safety, Islam.

-Blue: peace, tranquility, calmness, confidence, wisdom, depression, idealism, dependability, technology, cleanliness, coldness, calmness, friendliness, strength ,faith ,intelligence ,truth ,heaven.

-Yellow: joy, optimism, happiness, intelligence, hope, liberalism, femininity, friendship, dishonesty, gladness, and sociability.

-Orange: desire, aggression, arrogance, enthusiasm, balance, happiness, energy. Over emotion, Buddhism, Hinduism.

-Purple: spirituality, creativity, wisdom, envy, confusion, pride, romanticism, nobility, pride, sensuality, ambition, independence.

-Brown: poverty, tradition, calm, depth, stability, richness, roughness.

-Black: power, elegance, mystery, unity, life, anger, sadness, anonymity, sophistication, modernity, stability.

White: simplicity, security, coldness, fearfulness, surrender, hope, humility, purity, criticism, goodness, innocence.

It can be clearly seen that, each color, represents a great number of symbols regarding to its psychological effect, as Goethe, in his Theory of colors said:” Effect of color with reference to moral associations”.

Of course, these colors are capable of indicating lots of other symbols existing in every culture, however, some represent similar symbols.

This was my first post about the “Personal Symbol”. In which I just get some idea about the colors’ concepts and I would like to expand my inference towards this matter in order to choose my proper colors.
